Tango One
oil on paper, 20" x 28", 2008

This painting is the second from my Ballroom Dance Series One. This piece was inspired by some of the finest International Tango dancers in the world. The images had to be manipulated so as to fit into the interlocking structure of the composition, a structure which is inherent in Tango. Tango is a dance of contrasts. Passionate reds juxtaposed to serene turquoise blues resonate with this principle. Also, we see quiet moments of stillness exploding into violent, yet elegant, moments of movement. One will notice upon inspection, the use of strong horizontal and vertical undercurrents. These work to recall the staccato nature of the dance.
